December 2022

Phil Irons, ably assisted by Carl Burn as co-host, explained the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi also known as the art of wood repair. We also welcomed our first “Turn Up And Turn” guest, who only even being only 9 years old, managed to make a few shavings.

November 2022

Quality timber discussion with Peter Seagrieff of WoodRhino as well as a great interactive discussion with James Cassidy dispensing startup information for new and experienced turners alike. Report on the AWGB Seminar at Yarnfield Park, Staffordshire by Gordon Cookson.

October 2022

An interactive remote demonstration with a difference from Stuart Batty with a focus on his trademark 40/40 grind. Notice of upcoming Ordinary General Meeting, a report on the Surrey Hills Wood Fair 2022 outing, and a shared woodturning experience with Trevor Etherington relating how he turned an unfortunate turning incident into a positive one.

September 2022

A very successful Cheam club night with member demonstrations with David Buskell demonstrating safe chainsaw operation, and Jamie Shears and James Cassidy demonstrating laser engraving followed by Richard Shirazian turning a Christmas tree decoration. There was also a quick show of using your lathe for non woodturning activities. There's also a reminder about the upcoming Frank Clarke competition at the end of the year

Another adventure in colour with well known Stewart Furini demonstrating inspiring texturing and colouring techniques. A report on the 36th AAW Symposium by David Buskell and an interesting article on things that keep us out of the workshop by Derek Dowle.

A very informative evening by Terry Smart from Chestnut Products covering their most popular finishing products and how to best use them, including tips & tricks and answering members' questions. Terry also brought stock to sell at discount to member.s. An article on workshop safety and a report on a successful Ashtead Village Day event.

June 2022

Greg Moreton gave the Cheam Woodturners a double treat by showing how two short lengths of branch wood can be turned into making practical items. Sad news about Christopher Barretts's passing, generous tool donations from David Dawson and another successful day at Ashtead Village Day.

An Evening with Richard Findley greatly enjoyed by all with his latest demonstration using Pewter as inlay in a lidded Walnut box. Cheam has a brand new Axminster AT350WL lathe for demonstrations and shows. New Editors Christmas Star challenge.

Robert Sorby representatives Clive and Steve came along to the Elmcroft Centre for our March meeting with a treasure trove of Robert Sorby tools, equipment, accessories and consumables for members to drool over and buy if they were enticed to do so! Successful spring clean of the club’s storage space, new editor challenge and new turning tips.

The new-look Newsletter is released with a special thank you to Marie Shirazian who developed the new look. This month includes Les Thornes's onsite "Pointless" demonstration, news about storm Eunice, turning tips, and general notices and information, including the introduction of the "Turn-up and Turn" initiative.
