Paul Howard showed us how he produced his magnificent owls. He has designed and produces and sells various jigs for different parts of the process, for others he gave us precise measure- ments to use, for example in producing a sphere. It became obvious throughout the demonstration that following his measurements was critical in order to produce something that looked like an owl rather than a frightened mongoose. He prepared the owl in three parts, a sphere for the head, a beak and a cap and mortar board plus tassel. Paul used sycamore for the demonstration. Any wood though can be used but if it has strong grain characteristics then care must be taken to ensure that it fits in with the overall appearance of the face.
